Fuel Load Assessment and Bushfire Hazard Training (2 Day)
Learning Outcomes
  • Awareness of bushfire risks and hazards in a local context
  • Understand bushfire behaviour principles and how fuel loads impact fire spread and intensity, including fire weather
  • An appreciation of the local government bushfire risk management plan, bushfire prone areas and relevant legislation
  • Understand and identify different vegetation classifications and fuel arrangements
  • Determine appropriate mitigation measures for bushfire risk reduction
  • Ability to utilise tools and resources to accurately carryout fuel load assessments

Day 1:

  • Bushfire risk principles and characteristics
  • Bushfire risk management
  • Bushfire risk mitigation (theory)
  • Bushfire risk mitigation (field)
  • Fuel load assessment (theory)

Day 2:

  • Fuel load assessment (field)
  • Numerous sites will be visited, depending on the organisation’s requirements, to ensure participant exposure to a variety of local vegetation types
  • This will form the basis of the practical assessment
  • Recording fuel assessment data (organisation specific)
  • Written assessment
